HOUSE MANAGER

 

ABOUT TAYLOR MADE RETREAT: Taylor Made Retreat is a residential facility where those desiring recovery from drugs or alcohol can find recovery from their addiction through the application of the 12 steps.

 

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION:  The primary objective of the House Manager position is to create a safe, supportive, clean, and organized environment for individuals in recovery. This involves guiding clients through the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, maintaining a clean facility, fostering empathetic connections, and efficiently managing daily schedules and activities. The House Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the recovery program and supporting individuals on their recovery journey.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Guide Clients Through the 12 Steps
    • Prioritize guiding clients through the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous
    • Provide 1-on-1 support for individuals working on their steps
    • Lead morning meditations and nightly reviews
    • Coordinate, monitor and encourage participation in step work groups and discussions.
  2. Coordinate Daily Activities
    • Review the daily schedule and prepare for activities such as meditation, book studies, yoga, and chores. Ensure residents are prepared for and participating in scheduled activities.
    • Coordinate with volunteers, Speakers and class instructors to facilitate activities; assist in scheduling as needed.
    • Monitor and support clients on excursions, store runs, and attendance at AA meetings
    • Stay in tune with clients’ needs and assist in coordinating appointments, etc as needed
    • Assist with new client intake, ensuring they complete all necessary paperwork and guide them through the intake process.
  3. Maintain Cleanliness and Order
    • Regularly walk through the house and grounds, noting any issues or repairs that are needed.
    • Coordinate chores and housekeeping duties with clients and staff to keep the environment clean and organized.
  4. Communicate and Debrief
    • Communicate regularly and effectively with the leadership and house manager team regarding important information.
    • Attend the mandatory weekly staff meeting.
    • After each shift, compile an end-of-shift report, addressing any ongoing projects or concerns and updating the team on each client’s status.

 

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong commitment to guiding clients through their recovery journey.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate group activities as outlined on pages 86-88 in the Big Book (Alcoholics Anonymous). 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to manage daily schedules and activities.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • High level of cleanliness and attention to detail to maintain the environment.
  • Ability to enforce house rules and provide guidance and structure.
  • Resilience and the ability to maintain composure in challenging situations.
  • Ability to lead by example.
  • Ability to foster a positive and supportive atmosphere.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 3 years of sobriety
  • Ideally, you are a Certified Recovery Mentor (CRM) or you are willing to obtain your certification within the first 6 months of accepting the position
  • Proficiency and experience with the 12 Steps
  • Must be an active part of the recovery community – i.e. have a sponsor, be actively sponsoring, be regularly attending 12 step meetings and utilizing the 12 steps as a design for living.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Availability for evenings and weekends.

 

Hours: Part Time, possible Full Time

Shifts: Morning (6a – 3pm), Evening (2pm – 11pm)

Compensation: Hourly, Depending on Experience
